UKBA Announces New English Language Requirement

The government published a Statement of Intent (9 April 2013) for a set of rule changes which will activate in October 2013.  The change is summarized as...

 

Individuals wishing to apply for indefinite leave to remain (referred to hereafter as settlement) or naturalisation as British citizens (referred to hereafter as naturalisation) are required to demonstrate their knowledge of language and life in the UK (the KoLL requirement). Currently there are two ways in which this requirement can be met:

We write to inform you that we are today laying before the House a Statement of Changes in the Immigration Rules that will bring about urgent changes to tackle abuse in the Entrepreneur migration route while protecting genuine entrepreneurs.

In April 2011 we made some changes to the Investor and Entrepreneur routes to encourage greater uptake. These changes have successfully brought about a steady increase in applications from overseas.
