| The Artist Visa |
|---|
|
The "Artist Visa" allows the holder to live in the UK for up to 12 months subject a condition that the holder does not work in any other category than producing their own original artwork. Artwork includes writing (but not solely for newspapers and magazines), painting works of art, sculpturing, composing music, and less probable areas such as poetry and cartooning. It does not include performing artists, fashion designers, jewelry craftsman, or web-site designers. These categories require work permits. To qualify for this visa, the artist should present evidence that they have maintained themselves solely through the production of original artwork for at least the preceeding year. This would commonly be done by producing bank statements which are linked to sales receipts. Additionally, the artist should present evidence that they have established themselves as a recognized artist outside of the UK. This would commonly be done by producing press articles, critical reviews, gallery attendance figures, and so on. Finally, the artist must show that they will maintain themselves without recourse to public funds and that their presence in the UK will not result in overcrowding (adequate accommodation). Certain family members (normally spouse and children) may accompany the artist as dependents. |
